Who is eligible for the Clemente Center membership?
Memberships are available to undergraduate students, graduate students, part time students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their dependants. A membership entitles the member to utilize all areas of the Clemente Center providing they meet the age and dress code restrictions.
Why do we need an ID to enter the building?
A valid Florida Tech ID is proof that you are a member of the facility and all fees have been paid. Without an ID, anyone could utilize the services that you have paid for.
Can I park at the Clemente Center?
Parking is available only with Florida Tech parking decal. If one parks at the Clemente Center at any time without an approved parking permit, then they may receive a ticket from Florida Tech security.
Can members bring a guest?
Members of the Clemente Center are allowed to sponsor guests into the facility for a guest fee of $5, which is paid at the Control Desk at the time of entrance. Each member can sponsor a maximum of two guests during a visit. Members are responsible for the behavior of their guests. Students receive two free guest passes per semester.
Why don't you provide towels for your members?
The cost of a towel service is extremely expensive and labor intensive. Therefore, it is not in our budget at the present time.
What types of shoes are acceptable in the Clemente Center?
Non-marking athletic shoes are appropriate on all hard wood floors (basketball/racquetball). Inappropriate shoes mark the courts and require the use of special solutions that will reduce the life of the floors. In the fitness or free weight room, any athletic shoe is permitted while open toe shoes are prohibited.
Where do I go when I lose something?
The lost and found is located at the Control Desk, as well as cleaned out locker items.
How do I reserve areas of the facility?
You need to come to the Business Office and ask for a Facility Request Permit. Registered student organizations and University departments may reserve areas.
How do I request set-up for volleyball, badminton, wallyball, etc.?
Contact the supervisor on duty. If court space is available, your request can be satisfied immediately. To preserve the condition of the equipment and increase its life span, all courts need to be set-up by Clemente Center staff members only.
Does the Clemente Center control the temperature of the building?
The temperature of this building is controlled off-site by facilities management. Specific dates are set when the system changes from heating to air conditioning, therefore on an unusually warm day we may still have our heating system turned on. Utilizing fans and opening doors helps, but it takes time to cool a building of this size.
Why must participants in the Fitness Area and Free Weight Room be 14 years of age or older?
This age limit is common within campus recreation facilities throughout the U.S. Also, the equipment is made for an adult frame. Many people under the age of 14 are not fully developed.
Is food or beverage allowed in the fitness and free weight area?
Food is not allowed. Beverages are allowed only in a re-sealable container.
Are boom boxes allowed?
Participants may only use personal listening devices - boom boxes are not allowed.
Why is personal training not allowed?
If a person is using our facility to do personal training, we are liable. We do not know the background of an individual if they do not go through our training program. If a person wants to talk to anyone about this policy please refer him or her to the Fitness Director.
Why are collars mandatory?
This is to stop the occurrence of weights being dumped onto the floor, which can cause injury to other people in the room.
Why must all dumbbells and weights be re-racked after use?
This will keep the room neat and orderly. The space in this room is limited. If equipment is lying all over the floor, it will increase the possibility of someone tripping and injuring him or herself.
Why is standing on benches and/or equipment frames not allowed?
This can cause injury to the participant or others in the area due to being elevated off of the floor.
Why are spotters recommended?
If you know that you are attempting to lift a weight that is difficult, you should have spotter help in case your muscle fatigues. This will decrease the chance of you becoming injured during the lift. If a person is lifting correctly, anyone should be able to spot them.
