Parent Resources

The mission of the Career Service Office is to assist Florida Tech students, through an educational approach, achieve their career goals. The following information will help guide you through our services in assisting Florida Tech students so that you may advise them on ways to prepare for life after graduation.

Events

During the academic year, the Office of Career Services and Student Employment offer several events to assist students develop their career skills and meet with employers.

Fall Career Fair & Spring Employer Day

These events are an opportunity for students to meet and network with recruiting employers.

Career Workshops

Conducted throughout the year, these presentations range from resume building & tips, job search strategies, effective interviewing, and graduate school consideration.

Employer Information Sessions

Typically before on-campus interviews, employers conduct presentations covering their organization's profile and career paths that are available.

On-Campus Interviews

Recruiting employers post and schedule on campus interviews throughout the year for full-time professional positions, co-ops, and internships.

Career Plans

Throughout a student's academic career at Florida Tech, there are several steps that can be taken to assure the best results in the career path after graduation. We have provided a brief breakdown by academic year:

Freshman

  • This is the foundation of the academic career and extracurricular activities. Involvement in professional organizations, and student activities are key in gaining knowledge on the profession and creating a professional network.
  • Start building a resume and have an advisor review it. This will identify areas of qualification, experiences, and skills that need to be acquired. Remember, a resume is a work in progress.
  • Attend Career Fair and Employer Day to become familiar with employers and positions in the industry. Prepare to make a good impression by attending fair workshops as recruiters may attend career events consecutively.
  • Start to build a rapport with your professors as many come from the industry you are pursuing and can become a great reference down the road.

Sophomore

  • Become more involved and pursue leadership positions in professional organizations and student activities.
  • Attend workshops to familiarize yourself with career and professional related topics.
  • Attend employer information sessions to identify potential opportunities and speak to recruiters for further insight to the profession and industry.
  • Begin identifying possible internship or part-time opportunities to gain experience and contacts.

Junior

  • Meet with academic and career advisors often to discuss career plans, industry, research opportunities, and possible positions.
  • Conduct research on your specific career field to better understand employment prospects, obstacles, and highly sought after skills.
  • Identify possible internship opportunities early in the semester prior to start date, or return to previous internship employer in an advanced position with greater responsibilities.

Senior

  • Narrow down employers and research career paths and job descriptions that you would be interested in pursuing.
  • Schedule mock interview with the Career Service Office
  • Attend the Career Fair and Employer Day to meet and network with employers. To assure you navigate the fair effectively, attend fair preparation workshops.
  • Participate in on-campus interviews
