Florida State Aid

Florida residency and eligibility for Florida State aid programs are based on state law and administrative rules. Generally, students whose families have been living in Florida 12 months prior to the start of the school year are considered residents. The following programs are only available to Florida Residents who are citizens of or permanent residents of the US.

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Florida Tech rewards Florida's brightest high school students for their efforts and high academic achievement. We've combined funds from the state and federal governments with our own scholarships to make Florida Tech more affordable than ever. The Florida Tech Bright Futures program is only available to Florida residents who have graduated from a Florida high school and are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. To qualify, a student must have at least a 3.0 high school GPA and a 970 SAT I or 20 ACT. More information about the requirements and other ways to qualify can be found at http://www.firn.edu/doe/brfutures/acadrequire.htm

Where do I Begin?

  • Apply for admission to Florida Tech before January 15. Students who apply after that date may not be eligible for these awards. Financial Aid is awarded only to admitted, degree-seeking students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
  • Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before March 1. The form becomes available on or around December 1. Be sure to include Florida Institute of Technology as one of the schools to receive the report. Our federal school code for the FAFSA is 001469. If the FAFSA is not available at your school, you may request a copy from Florida Tech's Office of Financial Aid, or apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Check with your guidance or career counselor to ensure that you have the appropriate paperwork to qualify for Florida's Bright Futures Scholarships
  • Be sure your parents have the appropriate paperwork to prove residency in the state of Florida. Florida residency, and eligibility for Florida state aid programs, are based on state law and administrative rules. Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG):
All full-time undergraduate students who meet the Florida residency requirements are eligible to receive this financial assistance from the State. This amount varies from year to year based on available State funds; however, the amount awarded for 2007-2008 is $3,000. The state legislature will determine the amount for the next academic year.  We will post this amount as soon as it becomes available.
