The Florida Tech campus is situated
on the east coast of Central Florida in Brevard County, site of
Kennedy Space Center and NASA
shuttle launches. Less than one hour from Disney World, the Space
Coast occupies 72 miles of Atlantic coastline—Orlando’s
closest beaches.
Besides providing a pleasant living environment,
our unique subtropical setting is ideally suited for field
study and scientific research
in the areas of environmental science, oceanography, meteorology
and marine biology. The presence of NASA and other high-tech
companies was the impetus behind the university’s founding
and continues to be a dynamic influence in supporting leading-edge
research and
providing hands-on experience in the engineering disciplines
as well as physics and space sciences.
If you’re visiting
the Space Coast for the first time, you’ll
find it’s a relaxing contrast to the crowded venues of
nearby Orlando. From Titusville in the north to Sebastian in
the south,
this long, narrow county is a combination of beachside towns
like Cocoa Beach and Indialantic; mainland towns like Melbourne
and Palm
Bay; and even towns like Merritt Island, located on a long
peninsula along the intracoastal waterway. They’ve all
got something unique to offer, with fun things to see and do.
And no matter
where you are in Brevard, you’re only minutes from the
ocean, the river or the beach.
