What career or personal update would you like to give to your fellow Florida Tech Panthers alumni?
I don't have much of a career or personal update. I will say Entry level IT can be rough at times. I almost left IT because of that reason. However, I stuck with that job and waited out a better one and it was well worth it. Starting off your career can be a challenge. You may have to take a pay cut or take a temporary job that you might not be fully satisfied with, but if that means it will get you to where you want to be then I say do it. Not everyone gets their dream job right out the gate. Sometimes you need to sacrifice a little to get to where you want to be.
How did your time at Florida Tech help get you to where you are today?
My degree landed me the current job I am in. I was entry level IT prior to my current position and my degree put me above the other candidates when I applied for this role.
What is your favorite Florida Tech memory?
I was online so I didn't have much experience with any Florida Tech events. I still have plans to visit the campus one day so maybe this will change! I did plan to attend my graduation, but I live on the panhandle, and it was during Covid, so traveling was a big complication at the time.
Was there a mentor or professor who had a big impact on you personally and/or professionally?
Again, I did classes virtually, so I did not have any experience with any teachers that made a lasting memory. There were plenty of teachers along the way that helped me when I reached out, but I can't say just one mentor was the best. They were all great!
Please share any advice you have for current Florida Tech students.
Don't give up. I know it can seem like a lot at the time but once you graduate, you will feel an overwhelming sense of achievement. I remember all the struggles I had finishing my degree and the countless times I wanted to give up, but I kept going and I am where I am today because of that. I can say now, thinking back on all of those long nights and countless hours spent studying and finishing schoolwork seems minimal compared to everything else.
