What career or personal update would you like to give to your fellow Florida Tech Panthers alumni?
In the eight years since graduating, I have seen direct value and benefit from my MBA in IT Management. There have been approximately 6 career advancements in the form in-title promotions and upward promotions in that time. I have gone from lower management to Executive management and it quite often my organization references having an MBA in IT Management. I most recently got promoted Assistant Commissioner of IT Customer Support at the Office of Technology and Innovation. I am working directly with executives in charge of IT for the City of New York.
How did your time at Florida Tech help get you to where you are today?
The discipline and drive needed to achieve the degree certainly helps with achieving my career goals. Team projects, virtual engagements and understanding 'business' have all helped me advance.
What is your favorite Florida Tech memory?
Besides actual commencement, it would have to be the class in which we are running the sneaker store. Great exercise in team work, patience, understanding social credit and tough decisions. It was fun and taught us real life lessons.
Was there a mentor or professor who had a big impact on you personally and/or professionally?
I believe his name is Dr. Revel. He really made us focus on our communication skills with expressing our points in a complete yet concise way. He was tough yet fair. I have taken those lessons to the workplace to be more effective. Additionally, some brief conversation with Dr. Revel regarding Cyber Security peaked my interest and I was able to actual spend a few years as a Cyber Security professional.
Please share any advice you have for current Florida Tech students.
Enjoy the journey there at FIT and be sure to take a 'nugget' from every conversation and engagement. That 'nugget' will come back to be useful later down the road. Additionally, nourish your relationships and network. People remember who treated them well!
