Eric Durham Class of 2022 Major: M.S. Systems Engineering Current Home: Orlando, FL

What career or personal update would you like to give to your fellow Florida Tech Panthers alumni?

I was working locally at Northrop Grumman and was only able to get my masters degree during that time because of FIT's flexible after-work classes. After completing my masters degree at FIT, I was able to get a new job as a technology consultant at Ernst & Young LLP (EY). EY provided an environment where I could excel and take on more responsibility. Following my first two years at EY I was promoted to Manager and have been recognized for my performance. I am excited to see how I can continue to "build a better working world" and develop a meaningful career for myself at EY.

How did your time at Florida Tech help get you to where you are today?

The way the professor taught us to apply our learning to real situations was invaluable in preparing me to deal with all of the interesting problems that come up at with my various clients. Being able to apply systems thinking in difficult business and technology landscapes has helped me stand out and our clients to be successful.

What is your favorite Florida Tech memory?

My favorite time at FIT would either be seeing Saint Motel by the beach during the 2023 Homecoming fest or spending an hour talking to one of my favorite professors after class.

Was there a mentor or professor who had a big impact on you personally and/or professionally?

Dr. Arrasmith was my favorite professor during my time at FIT. He cared a lot about his students and making sure that we were learning to be good engineers and not just able to recite correct answers on tests. He spent a lot of his time figuring out how to best help us not just in our coursework but in our careers as engineers as well.

Please share any advice you have for current Florida Tech students.

Say yes to as many things as you can. It is always tempting to say no as your brain tells you all the reasons you shouldn't and how hard or how much effort the thing will take. I have found that I am always glad I said yes afterwards. Even if I just learned that I don't enjoy something, I exposed myself to something new and got through it.
