Extracurricular Activities:Vice Preseident, HFES and President, Drone Club at Florida Tech
What career or personal update would you like to give to your fellow Florida Tech Panthers alumni?
During my time at Florida Tech, I had the opportunity to attend several conferences focused on emerging technologies in aviation. It was at these conferences that I was able to meet several alumni who were already working in this area. Connecting with them helped me learn what work is currently being done in this space. During my Ph.D. I had the opportunity to complete several successful internships. These internships gave me a chance to implement the knowledge and skills I had learned through the course at the College of Aeronautics to understand real-world applications. Over the last year, I have been working as an advanced air mobility specialist. In this role, I primarily work as a consultant, where I conduct research on new emerging technologies in aviation, for example, electric aircraft, drones, and autonomous aircraft. In this work, I conduct an in-depth analysis of how these technologies can impact the existing air transportation ecosystem. Since joining, I have supported several projects ranging from evaluating the environmental impact of drone delivery operations to establishing airport infrastructure requirements and implementation strategies that airport and state authorities can leverage to safely integrate these technologies into their operations.
What is your favorite Florida Tech memory?
Some of the most memorable memories for at Florida Tech is definitely the professional relationships I have been able to develop with my fellow Panthers. Particularly, my time as the President of the Drone Club and working as a graduate research student at ATLAS Lab. I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most bright and enthusiastic fellow drone operators and student researchers, with whom I not only shared my passion for aviation, but extra curricular activities as well. This has led to form lifelong camaraderie, that I truly cherish.
Was there a mentor or professor who had a big impact on you personally and/or professionally?
I am where I am today because of all the professors I worked and studied under. The knowledge and the experiences my professors have provided me have made me what I am today as a professional. But one professor, without whom none of this would have been possible is my advisor: Dr. Meredith Carroll. Before starting my Ph.D., I approached her with the idea of doing research on urban air mobility. It was four years ago. Since then, we have published several conference proceedings, presented our research at several international symposiums, and collaborated with leading organizations in the industry. Her passion for teaching, caring for students, and providing opportunities that not only give students the chance to hone their skills as a researcher but make them employment-ready the minute they graduate is unmatched!
Please share any advice you have for current Florida Tech students.
Connect with your alumni. Florida Tech has wealth of resources available that help you succeed as student, and even after you graduate. The internships that I have made is through meeting College of Aeronautics alumni. Use these to explore opportunities, make professional connections, and help your fellow Panthers.
