What career or personal update would you like to give to your fellow Florida Tech Panthers alumni?
To Florida Tech alumni and prospective students, my advice is never to give up and always to recognize the value of what you know and what you can achieve. Preparation is key—stay humble and never let overconfidence lead you astray, since that can be a quick path to failure. Cultivate your connections and be mindful of relationships; avoid burning bridges and focus on identifying which battles are worth fighting. Above all, prioritize ethics in your decisions and remember your responsibility to contribute positively to society. Keeping these principles in mind will guide you as you navigate your career and make a meaningful impact.
How did your time at Florida Tech help get you to where you are today?
Florida Tech has been instrumental in shaping my journey, providing me with the essential tools to learn and grow. Ultimately, the drive to learn is what makes education effective, and that foundation has been crucial to my success. My involvement in Formula SAE was particularly transformative; it opened doors to hands-on work and taught me the significance of project management, design for manufacturability, and perseverance in the face of challenges. There simply are not enough words to express how pivotal Formula SAE and my practical experiences were in getting me to where I am today at Tesla. The skills and mindset I developed at Florida Tech have proven invaluable in my career.
What is your favorite Florida Tech memory?
One of my most cherished memories at Florida Tech undoubtedly stems from my three experiences attending Formula SAE in Michigan with our dedicated team. This event is unlike any other, immersing you in a whirlwind of emotions that truly tests your limits. The camaraderie we built felt like that of a family, with every team member pouring their heart and soul into our shared goal of success. The long hours and intense dedication often meant sacrificing sleep, enduring grueling conditions, and pushing through both sweat and tears. The challenging cold weather only added to the experience, making our triumphs all the more rewarding. These unforgettable moments not only solidified my love for engineering but also enriched my college experience in a way that I will always treasure.
Was there a mentor or professor who had a big impact on you personally and/or professionally?
The most memorable professor of my college experience was Dr. David Fleming. His dynamic teaching methods and genuine passion for engineering elevated his classes to a different level. He challenged us to engage with our minds fully and pushed us to put forth our best efforts.
Please share any advice you have for current Florida Tech students.
Get involved, build friendships, and fully immerse yourself in the college experience—there’s truly nothing else like it. As someone who was a student for nearly a decade, I can tell you that this time is invaluable. Pursue what genuinely excites you and aligns with your vision for the future. While internships are a great way to gain experience, be careful not to let them overshadow your studies. Take advantage of student competitions and team activities—collaboration is the future, and nothing significant is achieved alone. Education is a lifelong journey, and the extra income from a part-time job won’t shape your life as profoundly as an outstanding capstone or senior design project will. That hands-on experience will have a lasting impact, teaching you lessons you won’t find elsewhere.
