Welcome Summer Interns

The Intern Housing Program is a short-term housing program for students from other colleges and universities coming to Melbourne, Florida, for Summer Internships.

Applications are not currently being accepted. We hope to have applications open in February 2025.

Please note that current Florida Tech students are not eligible for the Intern Housing Program and must contact Housing with all summer housing questions.

As an intern in the Melbourne area, Florida Institute of Technology has everything you need for your stay. Our modern, three-story, air-conditioned, furnished, apartment-style residence hall is located two miles from campus. Panther Bay includes such amenities as a private bedroom, private bathroom, Internet, outdoor swimming pool, picnic tables, and barbeque grills.

The Property

Each apartment at Panther Bay has five private bedrooms with one extra-long twin bed per bedroom, a dresser, a closet, and a desk. Each bedroom also has its own bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet. The apartment also includes a living/dining area, full kitchen (no cookware/dishes/utensils/microwave), a washer and dryer, and wireless Internet (No TV).

Interns are assigned a bedroom but may request an apartment roommate(s). The Intern Housing Coordinator reserves the right to make all housing assignments according to space availability.

Interns will need to provide their own bed linens, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. Please see the suggested packing list under additional resources.

Requirements: All applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • 18+ years of Age
  • Actively enrolled in a Higher-Education, Degree-Seeking Program
  • Proof of internship at a local company.

Rent and Payment Information: Rent is $280 per person per week, and this rate does NOT include local taxes. The total balance is due a week prior to move-in; if we do not receive payment in full, your spot is forfeited.

Cancellation Policy: Any total cancellation must be received in writing via email at camps@fit.edu no less than three weeks prior to the planned arrival date. Cancellation requests received less than three weeks prior to the intern's scheduled arrival will receive a partial refund. Interns who leave early will not get a refund except at the discretion of the Intern Housing Coordinator under special circumstances that will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.

Parking:  If the intern is bringing or renting a vehicle, they will be required to have a parking permit. When the interns fill out the application, they will be asked to provide vehicle information. Based on the information provided, we will have a parking permit at check-in for each intern, which must be displayed in their vehicle while on campus.

Pets: For health, sanitation, public safety, and in consideration of others, pets of any sort are prohibited. Should this policy be violated, a fine will be assessed, and the intern will be instructed to remove the pet from Florida Tech premises within 24 hours. Failure to remove the pet/or pay the fine will result in the University removing the animal at the intern's expense and losing their summer intern housing at Florida Tech. Any damage, cleaning, or pest control costs associated with the presence of an unauthorized pet will be billed to the intern.
