Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Cultural Competency Certificate
The Cultural Competency Certificate program at Florida Tech is a university-based initiative known as the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) which is a requirement of the university's accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
The learning outcomes of the original Quality Enhancement Plan in 2015 specified the international aspect of culture. However, moving forward in 2020, at the five-year mark of the program, the definition of culture has been expanded to include a much broader base of cultural constituents as campuses, society, and the world globalizes at an ever-increasing rate.
Imbue the outcomes below with a definition of culture that includes varying ideologies and backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender, religion, economic class, physical abilities, age, and native language.
Develop Cultural Competence through the Certificate Program:
1: Graduates will demonstrate their willingness to seek out opportunities to interact with those who are from nations, cultures, and ethnicities other than their own in interpersonal and social settings.
2: Graduates will demonstrate their willingness and ability to accept cultural differences and tolerate cultural ambiguity in interpersonal and social settings.
3: Graduates will demonstrate their willingness and ability to adapt their behavior to interact effectively with those who are from nations, cultures, and ethnicities other than their own in interpersonal and social settings.
4: Graduates will demonstrate their willingness and ability to learn from those who are from nations, cultures, and ethnicities other than his/her own in interpersonal and social settings.
