Personal Overview
Dr. Luis Daniel Otero is a tenured Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Systems Engineering at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech), Melbourne, FL. He is also a Co-Director of the Center of Advanced Data Analytics and Systems (CADAS) at Florida Tech. Prior to joining Florida Tech, Dr. Otero served as software engineer for major defense contractors, research assistant in the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF), National Science Foundation (NSF) graduate fellow at USF, and structural engineer at Ingalls Shipbuilding.
Dr. Otero’s research interests include model-based systems engineering, simulation modeling, and performance analysis and process improvement related to various types of systems (e.g., mission critical systems and transportation systems). His research efforts have resulted in competitive research grants at federal, state, and industry levels. Dr. Otero has authored over 60 technical publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings (e.g., IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Access Journal, Expert Systems with Applications, and International Journal of Forecasting). He is also an active reviewer of several journal publications and leading conferences in decision-making and systems engineering. Dr. Otero is an active Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Senior Member).
