Dr. Smeltz was born and raised in Pennsylvania and completed her undergraduate studies at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. She received her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in Organometallic Chemistry under the direction of Dr. Elon Ison in 2013. That same year, Dr. Smeltz went back to Millersville University as a Visiting Assistant Professor before joining the faculty at Florida Tech in 2014.
