University Scholarships and Grants

All students are considered for Academic Scholarships and Grants at the time they are admitted to the University.  Eligibility for the Academic Scholarships and Grants is based on the student's prior academic performance.

Florida Tech also offers need-based grants to those who qualify.  To qualify for need-based grants, students must meet the basic eligibility requirements for Federal Financial aid and submit a FAFSA each year.  Aid will be awarded based on the student's FAFSA information and other Financial Aid.

All Florida Tech Scholarships and Grants require full-time undergraduate enrollment (12+ hours).  Florida Resident Scholarships, Academic Scholarships, and Academic Grants are mutually exclusive; they do not "stack" and cannot be combined. If a student qualifies for more than one of academic scholarships or grant, the student will be offered the higher scholarship, but not the sum of two or more. Scholarships in an amount less than full tuition may, however, be combined with Incentive Scholarships, Florida Tech Family Grants, and Need-Based Grants.

Florida Tech scholarships can be combined with state and federal scholarship and grant programs.

Florida Tech scholarships and grants are not available during summer terms unless otherwise noted.

Scholarships for Florida Residents

The following scholarships are only available to students who are residents of Florida.

Florida Tech Distinguished Scholar Award

High school students who qualify for the Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award are eligible to be considered for a Florida Tech Distinguished Scholar Award, a combination of scholarships and grants that covers full tuition plus the facilities and activities fees to attend Florida Tech. 

The Florida Tech Distinguished Scholar Award is only available to first-time freshmen. To be considered, applicants must:

• Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application while still in high school
• Qualify for the Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars award
• Apply and be admitted to Florida Tech as a full-time, on-campus, degree-seeking student by February 1 of the year immediately preceding your first semester.

• Complete the Florida Tech Distinguished Scholar application online by February 1^st.

• Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) listing Florida Tech as a receiving institution (financial aid code: 001469) by February 1 of the year immediately preceding your first semester.

To be eligible for renewal in subsequent years, students must remain in good standing and meet all requirements for the Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholarship, and file a FAFSA application for the academic year in which they seek renewal.  The distinguished scholar award is renewable for a maximum of nine (9) semesters.

Farmer Scholars Program

Annually, Florida Institute of Technology selects one exceptionally qualified student to receive a Farmer Scholarship, which includes full tuition, housing and meals, and fees.  Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA, and be in good academic standing and eligible for renewal for Grant and Scholarship aid from the state of Florida.

Florida Tech Scholarships

Academic Scholarship and International Scholarship

Students awarded a Florida Tech Academic Scholarship or International Scholarship must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal for up to nine (9) semesters.

Florida Tech Science Fair and NCSSS Scholarships

Students awarded one of these scholarships must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal for up to nine (9) semesters.

Florida Tech Transfer Scholarship

Students awarded the Florida Tech Transfer Scholarship must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal.

Florida Tech Phi Theta Kappa, Scouting and First Robotics Scholarships

Students awarded one of these scholarships must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal for up to nine (9) semesters.

Florida Tech Grants

Boundless Opportunity Grants

Boundless Opportunity Grants help make Florida Tech more financially accessible for high-achieving students with unmet financial need. These grants are limited to students residing in select counties in Florida. Currently, Florida Tech offers the following:

• Brevard Boundless Opportunity Grant
• Indian River Opportunity Grant
• Osceola Boundless Opportunity Grant
• Volusia Boundless Opportunity Grant

Qualified recipients of one of the above Boundless Opportunity Grants receive additional funds in the amount of the difference between tuition and fees and the student's other gift assistance (including merit-based university and state scholarships). With one of these grants, an eligible student who enrolls at Florida Tech will owe the university zero dollars for tuition and fees.

In order to receive a Boundless Opportunity Grant as part of a comprehensive financial aid package, a student must:

• Reside in Brevard County, Indian River County, Osceola County or Volusia County, Florida
• Complete the FAFSA and be Federal Pell Grant eligible
• Qualify for the Florida Academic Scholarship or the Florida Medallion Scholarship (Bright Futures)
• Apply and be admitted to Florida Tech by May 1

To be eligible for grant renewal in subsequent years, students must:

• Remain in good standing and meet all requirements for State, Federal and institutional aid
• Complete a new FAFSA application each year

If a student is no longer PELL grant or State aid eligible in a subsequent year, but meets the Boundless Opportunity Grant renewal standards, the institution will honor the Boundless Opportunity Grant at the rate awarded in the most recent eligible award year. 

Florida Tech Legacy and Sibling Grants

Students awarded one of these scholarships must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled). Siblings may only receive the Sibling Grant of two or more siblings are concurrently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree-seeking program.

Florida Tech Academic Grant

Students awarded a Florida Tech Academic Grant must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal for up to nine (9) semesters.

Florida Tech Grant

Students awarded the Florida Tech Grant must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA as well as a minimum 75% completion rate (must successfully complete 75% of the courses in which they have enrolled).  Students who meet or exceed the minimum academic requirements and complete a FAFSA application that demonstrates qualifying financial need will be eligible for renewal.  Renewal offers are based on demonstrated need as determined by the annual FAFSA application and other available aid.

International Partnership Funds

Florida Tech has several international partners through which students from the partnered location can receive partnership funds.  To maintain good standing and renew these funds, students must maintain a minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students who meet or exceed the minimum requirements will be eligible for renewal for up to nine (9) semesters.

Federal Aid

To be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, you must meet the following Basic Eligibility Criteria set forth by the U.S. Department of Education (see this helpful infographic):

• demonstrate financial need (for most programs);
• be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen;
• have a valid Social Security number (with the exception of students from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau);
• be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible degree program;
• be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for Direct Loan Program funds;
• maintain satisfactory academic progress in college or career school;
• sign the certification statement on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA^®) stating that
• you are not in default on a federal student loan and do not owe money on a federal student grant and
• you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes; and
• show you’re qualified to obtain a college or career school education by
• having a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate; 
• completing a high school education in a homeschool setting approved under state law (or—if state law does not require a homeschooled student to obtain a completion credential—completing a high school education in a homeschool setting that qualifies as an exemption from compulsory attendance requirements under state law); or
• enrolling in an eligible career pathway program and meeting one of the "ability-to-benefit" alternatives described below.

To continue receiving federal aid, students must meet the Basic Eligibility Criteria, and Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards.

Florida State Aid

Residency Requirements

The Florida State aid is only available to Florida residents who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Florida residency is based on state law and administrative rules. Generally, students whose families have been living in Florida twelve (12) consecutive months prior to the start of the school year are considered residents. A full and complete description of rules and regulations regarding Bright Futures and other state aid can be found through the state's Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Florida State Scholarships

Bright Futures Academic Scholars

Eligible applicants are Florida high school graduates with a minimum 3.5 high school GPA, a 1340 SAT, 29 ACT composite, or 96 CLT, and 100 hours of community service or paid work hours. Eligible students receive approximately $6,360 (30 credits) per year.

Bright Futures Medallion Scholars

Eligible applicants are Florida high school graduates with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and a 1210 SAT or 25 ACT composite or an 84 CLT score, and 75 hours of community service or 100 paid work hours. Eligible students receive approximately $4,770 (30 credits) per year.

Students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to renew their Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award and a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA to renew their Florida Medallion Scholars Award (FMS). FAS awardees who earn less than a 3.0 cumulative, but higher than 2.75 cumulative GPA will be renewed at the FMS award level, so long as they meet the credit hour requirement (see below).

Credit Hour Requirement

Note that Bright Futures funds will not pay for withdrawn courses, repeated courses, or remedial courses. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals approvals through the university will not apply to this award. If a student fails to meet the renewal requirements after their first year in college and brings their academic standing to the minimum requirements for their Bright Futures Scholarship by the end of their second year, the student may appeal to the state for reinstatement of their Bright Futures award.

Florida State Grants

Effective Access To Student Education (EASE, Formerly Known As FRAG)

All full-time undergraduate students who meet the Florida residency requirements are eligible to receive this financial assistance from the state. The award amount varies from year to year and is based on available state funds. The state legislature will determine the amount for each academic year.

Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)

To qualify for the Florida Student Assistance Grant, a student must have a valid FAFSA application on file with a qualifying SAI and demonstrate financial need.

To be eligible for renewal for Florida Grants, students must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA, and must have completed at least 24 credit hours in the past academic year (or 12 credit hours in each term during the aid year in which the eligible student received aid). For these grants, an academic year can include the prior summer.  If a student does not meet the renewal requirements at the start of the new academic year, the student must sit out a full year (fall and spring terms) before being considered for renewal. Students who sit out a year must meet the minimum GPA requirements to be reinstated. Note that Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals through the university will not apply to these awards and a separate appeal must be made, if the student is eligible to do so.
