History
In 2019, Brevard County philanthropist, Mr. Fred Sutton, co-founder of Sutton Properties, challenged Florida Tech to raise support for the Scott Center through naming rooms. He himself gave a lead gift of $100,000. Other donors matched this. During the Evening of Hope celebration that year, Mr. Sutton was so moved by the gratitude of families who had benefitted from the Scott Center's support and work with their children, that he issued a second challenge, offering an additional $150,000 if we could raise $250,000 in the next five days.
Thanks to several leaders, including Trustees F. Alan Smith and Vik Verma, and community leader Ted and Melissa Parker as well as a Florida Tech parent, Mr. Greg Williams, we reached this goal. Other donors included the NY Jets Football team and the Unchained Kings Motorcycle Club. The University continues to pursue all naming opportunities at the Scott Center in support of this endowment and welcomes any additional gifts to sustain and grow these vital programs for the benefit of the community and all the students there working on and researching treatments for autism.
