History
In March of 1999, Walter and Dorotea Gatti made a gift of $240,000 to the campaign for a rising star. The F.W. Olin Foundation matched the initial donation of $240,000 and the fund totaled $480,000. The recipients have always been selected by financial need and academic merit and they have had to be enrolled full-time in FIT.
Walter J. Gatti founded Tensor Engineering in 1958. Since that time, Mr. Gatti and Tensor Engineering have played an integral part in the construction of most of the major steel structures built in the United States.
Mr. Gatti has more than 60 years of knowledge and experience in his role as company president. He has personally supervised the structural steel fabrication detail and field erection drawings for over 3,300 bridges. Recognized within the industry as a leading authority, Mr. Gatti currently serves as the chairman of the NSBA/AASHTO committee the standard presentation of design drawings, detail drawings, approval processes, and electronic data transfer.
