There are several Florida Tech policies that cover substance use and abuse.
University Policies and Regulations
Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy
Florida Institute of Technology is committed to protecting the safety, health and well-being of all students and employees. Alcohol and drug abuse pose a threat to the health and safety of students and employees and to the security of our equipment and facilities. In addition, the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 requires recipients of federal grants and certain federal contracts to certify that they will provide a drug-free workplace and establish an ongoing drug-free awareness program. The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 require higher education institutions receiving federal financial assistance to adopt and implement a program to prevent the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol for students and employees. For these reasons, this policy outlines the university's commitment to the elimination of illegal and/or alcohol use and abuse in the workplace.
Smoking and Tobacco Use
Florida Institute of Technology is committed to promoting a healthy working and learning environment for faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors. This policy aims to reduce unwanted exposure of faculty, staff, students, and visitors to tobacco or vape products and to establish designated areas on campus for those who choose to use these products. This policy addresses requirements of the Florida Clear Indoor Air Act.
