Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards

The Mathematics and Systems Engineering Department invites nominations for the departmental Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for outstanding performance as a graduate teaching assistant.

In the Mathematics and Systems Engineering Department, graduate teaching assistants provide essential services to faculty and students, including the coordination of recitations and labs, effective communication of mathematical concepts in lecture and office hour settings, and speedy, accurate grading.

Each spring, one graduate student is recognized by the department for excellence in their teaching assistant duties.

In order to be eligible, the student must be currently enrolled as a masters or doctoral student in the Mathematics and Systems Engineering Department, and have served as a graduate teaching assistant for the past two semesters.

About named awards

Dr. Cecilia Knoll Excellence In Mentoring Award: In honor of Dr. Cecilia Knoll, a professor of mathematical sciences who for 44 years brought passion, deep knowledge and humor to Florida Tech classrooms while also serving as a mentor and role model for graduate student assistants and other faculty.

Dr. Semen Koksal Excellence in Teaching Award: Dr. Semen Koksal was a professor of mathematical sciences, department head and former vice president for academic affairs. A tireless and curious scholar who published extensively, Dr. Koksal never failed to realize that students came first.
