Meet Florida Tech’s Next First Lady: Dr. Stacy Nicklow
Dr. Stacy Nicklow: Well, like John, I attended Bucknell University to pursue a degree in engineering and to continue playing my sport, which was volleyball. I chose Bucknell because they had a five year dual degree program that allowed people like me—people who wanted to be engineers but were also interested in the liberal arts—to pursue education. So I thought that was perfect. I chose mechanical engineering and English.
Florida Tech: What do you value about being part of a university community?
Dr. Stacy Nicklow: I think there's no more vibrant place to be than on a college campus. The energy and excitement of students and faculty is just palpable from the sidewalk to the academic buildings to sports fields. It's just truly inspiring to me to be a part of it.
I've been really fortunate to be a part of many university communities from my undergraduate to my graduate school, teaching, being a university president spouse, and I'm really looking forward to being part of the Florida Tech family.
Florida Tech: Why is Florida Tech a great fit for your family?
Dr. Stacy Nicklow: Well John and I are very excited to be part of a STEM university where pretty much everyone on campus is going to get our corny math jokes. That will be fun. We're also looking forward to the weather being residents of this beautiful space coast.
But for me personally, I am really looking forward to Panthers lacrosse games. I grew up in Syracuse, New York, and that is a huge lacrosse hub, for those who don't know that. I have not seen a collegiate game in about 25 years, so I will definitely be on the sidelines cheering them on.
