The Global Workforce and Cross-Cultural Competence
(2015-2025)
The goals of this QEP fell within the broad area of campus internationalization, capitalizing on the presence of a large international student population at Florida Tech. The QEP was developed to support and build on the work of units already involved in advancing internationalization efforts in academic, research, and service areas.
The plan had two student-centered goals which were designed to help prepare Florida Tech students for the global workforce, an aim presented in the university’s Strategic Plan for 2013-2023.
Goal 1. Expand Knowledge and Understanding of Global Cultures: Florida Tech students will expand their awareness, knowledge, and understanding of global cultures through academic study.
Goal 2. Develop Cross-Cultural Competence: Florida Tech students will demonstrate a greater willingness to interact with, accept, understand, and learn from those who are from nations, cultures, and ethnic groups other than their own.
The Cultural Competency Certificate is still offered to students who opt-in to the co-curricular program. However, since 2020, at the five-year mark of the program, the program has utilized an expanded definition of culture to include a much broader base of cultural constituents as campuses, society, and the world globalizes at an ever-increasing rate. The courses that qualify toward the Cultural Competency Certificate have remained largely the same and are marked as (CC) in the catalog.
