The Hank Hughes Spirit of Florida Tech Award recognizes a Florida Tech staff member who exemplifies camaraderie, collaboration, empowerment, and goes above and beyond in their contributions to the university. This award celebrates an individual who embodies the spirit and character of Hank Hughes, a longtime groundskeeper known for his friendliness, can-do attitude, and ever-present commitment to making Florida Tech a better place for all.
Eligibility
Staff members with a year or more of service to Florida Tech are eligible. Nomination criteria are as follows:
- Achievement: The nominee must have accomplished something notable beyond their typical job responsibilities, going above and beyond with excellence.
- Embodiment of Hank Hughes's Spirit: Nominee must reflect Hank Hughes' values, demonstrating leadership and commitment to the university.
- Collaboration and Empowerment: The nominee should demonstrate leadership through teamwork and fostering an environment where others are empowered to succeed.
Self-nominations are not accepted.
Nomination, Submission and Selection
All nominations must be submitted by Jan. 31 of each year.
The nominator must include their full name and relationship to the nominee when submitting the nomination form; anonymous nominations are not permitted. The nomination form has spaces allocated for the nominator to describe how the nominee meets each of the aforementioned criteria (achievement, embodiment of Hank Hughes's spirit, collaboration and empowerment).
Selection Process
If serving on the Staff Advisory Council, the nominator and/or nominee must abstain from voting or participating in any part of the selection process. The Benefits Subcommittee of the Staff Advisory Council will review all submissions and select the top three candidates. The top three candidates will be brought before the full Staff Advisory Council for a final vote. The council may seek approval or feedback from the university leadership if necessary.
