Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What kind of help can students seek?
Tutors help students with any questions about lectures, lab reports, or topics covered in class. Students are highly encouraged to form small groups and join online sessions together. However, if students would rather have a face-to-face session, the SSSC offers the possibility (see below for more details regarding limitations and availabilities). Tutors will not write the lab reports or solve homework questions or complete quizzes for or with the students. If any questions arise, students may contact the front desk at the SSSC and check Canvas regularly to stay up to date.

Is there a limit to the number of help sessions students can attend?
Students may attend a limitless number of help sessions. Students are strongly encouraged to form small groups and join the sessions together. Students may schedule face-to-face appointments at the Hub.
Does the SSSC accept walk-ins?
WALK-INS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME, but appointments are encouraged to ensure availability of a tutor or GSA.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Is SI the same as regular tutoring?
SI is a student-centered group study model that utilizes undergraduate peer tutors and GSAs to facilitate sessions about lectures. For the best experience, students should come with questions and practice problems.
What topics are covered during the SI sessions?
The SSSC covers General Chemistry 1101 and 1102 and Organic Chemistry 2001.
Will the SSSC hold review sessions before the exams?
Yes, review sessions will be held before exams. Students may check Canvas or the HUB for updates about the exam review sessions.
Is attendance mandatory?
No, attending the SI sessions is not mandatory, but attendance has been shown to affect grades positively.

Is there a limit of face-to-face appointments students can request?
Students may each schedule as many as three appointments per class each week.
May students bring a friend who needs help, too?
Students may bring friends. Study groups are encouraged. Tutors and GSAs are available to assist and answer questions.
Online Appointments
